“Easy Duets for Christians is a great addition to recorder repertoire and to church repertoire. I could see these duets being used by students in a worship service as a solo performance or used along with congregational hymn singing. Children participation in worship is an invaluable addition to our churches. It allows the student to use his/her gifts but also an opportunity to play in front of an audience. I would use this book to encourage students to share their talents in worship. The songs used in the book are hymns and songs that are worth learning. In a workshop, Michael Burkhart, organist and composer, commented that few children and young people are familiar with hymns and made a call to teach these things. This book allows the student to learn hymns and could be used as a supplement to a unit on hymns.

Musically this book is strong. It offers a variety of difficulties, rhythms, and lengths. I appreciate the divisions made in the book regarding what notes are used in each song. This certainly takes the guesswork out of the teacher's job. The second part in the duets are interesting. They are not the usual boring alto part that stays on the same note throughout. The second parts are equally challenging and move just as much as the first part. The large print used for the music...definitely makes it easier for young students to read.
